African American, Willis Johnson of Cincinnati, Ohio, invented a mechanical egg beater (U.S. pat# 292,821) on February 5, 1884.It was really more a mixing machine for bakers and cooks. There were two bowls and you could beat eggs in one and flour and water etc in the other, at the same time.It worked by turning a handle attached to a belt and pulley.
